Reflection on Reading

Eating Animals- I thought this book had some valuable information and an interesting take on the way we view the food on our plates. While I agree with the points he makes on ethical eating, I wish we could work more I really appreciated the names of some of his chapters, like “Slices of Paradise/Pieces of Shit.”

Some interesting quotes

“Stories about food are stories about us-our history and our values.” (11)

“We need to explain that the parsley on the plate is for decoration, that pasta is not a “breakfast food,” why we eat wings but not eyes, cows but not dogs.” (12)

“To do nothing is something.” (38)

“We have let the food industry craft our national nutritional policy, which influences everything from what foods are stocked in the health-food aisle at the local grocery store to what our children eat at school.” (147)

“At the end of the day, factory farming isn’t about feeding people; it’s about money.” (243)
