I enjoyed reading this book because it put a different view on the way we as a society look at animals. We as a society interact with animals everyday whether it being indirectly or directly. It was depressing to hear about the fur farms and how the animals are treated. We as human put ourselves on pedestal which makes us think that we are superior to animals, we have this preconception that humans are at the top of the food chain. In my own personal belief this is not the case.
I think this point also resonates with the idea of people going to a zoo and interacting with animals that would never be possible to do otherwise. This plays into the idea of human doing what they feel as the right thing to do, but in reality this is not the case. We are feeding this ecotourism idea. We are taking away animals from their natural habitat.
Current Event: There’s a positive outcome with global warming. Humpbacks and bow-heads whales are able to find food easily. This is helping the humpback population recover after the increase in commercial hunting was banned. The climate change has helped significantly.
