Fortunately, there is plenty of available scholarly research on urban heat island mitigation strategies. Many of them include case studies on particular cities that have employed certain mitigation strategies, and the research examines their effectiveness. I have found articles about large cities like New York City, Chicago, Athens (the real one), Osaka, Kobe, and others.
I would like to use this project to compare and contrast each city’s mitigation strategies as well as their effectiveness. From that, I hope to be able to determine the most effective strategy. It is possible, however, that the success of a certain strategy is place-specific, so I will also try ascertain why some approaches may have worked better in some places than in others.
