Enviro Article: Contest to Convert Carbon Dioxide Waste

Carbon-Dioxide

The X Prize Foundation is holding a contest in which competing teams create usable products out of carbon dioxide gas. The teams can choose between converting emissions from a natural gas plant, or converting emissions from a coal power plant. They have to make a business case for their approach, as well as minimizing their use of other resources. The top five teams win $5,000, and the prize for winning the contest is $10 million. That’s a crazy reward and should provide an impetus for people to compete, and hopefully find a way to convert some of the wasteful, damaging emissions into useful products.
