Snowpack in Sierra Nevada’s is Lowest in 500 Years

According to this article, the dry winter that California has experienced is the reason behind the lower amount of snow on the tops of the Sierra Nevada mountains.  The hotter temperatures make the drought worse, which leads to less snow as water storage, and that in turn leads to lower crop yields and less water for public use.  This could lead to an even longer dry season, and an even more severe drought in the region.
