After it had been announced that Volkswagen was under investigation by the Environmental Protection Agency for faulty emissions numbers. It has found that a software device was instituted in models, as recent as 2015 and as far back as 2009, that recognize when an emissions test is being conducted and reduces the amount being released. However, every other time each vehicle has been releasing forty percent more than United States’ Clean Air Act allows to be emitted.
As of this past Friday, the EPA has ordered Volkswagen to recall 482,000 cars sold in the country and the company has put aside $7.25 billion to fix the problem. After word spread, South Korea will be investigating the models imported, and if they do find the same problem; they have already stated that they will fine the German based company as much as $3.5 million and have the cars recalled as well.
And yet, here is another car company using underhanded methods to sell more cars and make more money. It amazes me that they think they can get away with it without any repercussions. I hope the government fines the company enough that they are greatly affected by their inexcusable intentions.
