This article explains the “Blob” in the pacific ocean, which is a warm body of water and how it is quelling the upwelling of nutrients in coastal waters. This is happening at a interesting time because certain forage species are already at an all time low. With less nutrients, populations may drop even further, causing a severe decline in fish stocks. Scientists at the American Fisheries Society are now calling for a more extensive ecological based system to determine fishery management.
