Project Update – May Move Out

This past weekend, 4/11/15 and 4/12/15, I completed my 8 hours of volunteering at the Delaware Goodwill. This was a great opportunity to see first hand what items are accepted at Goodwill and the sorting process that occurs on site. Because the unwanted items that we will collect during May Move Out will be donated to this Goodwill location,it is essential for me as well as the other student workers to know what items we can accept and what items we cannot. Many of the unwanted items in include mattresses, large home appliances, products that contain chemicals, TV’s manufactured before a certain date, weapons, and many more. They have a very efficient sorting process that requires dedicated and well trained individuals. There were many times where we were slammed with donations at the drop off zone, most likely due to the nice weather. This experience makes me feel honored to be working on a project that will provide both goods and jobs for the local community, all while keeping unnecessary trash out of our nation’s landfills.
