Environmental Topic: PANDAS

Pannnnndas!! China is home to all of the worlds wild pandas. However, China has made the claiming that the wild panda population has increase in just ten years by almost 17%. However, there is conflicting information that makes these numbers look inaccurate. It is hard to say if the raise in population is just due to a larger sampling size or sampling outside of protected land. Also they aren’t exactly counting pandas.. they are counting individuals by DNA in scat. They used this method to come up with the numbers but it wasn’t done consistently. However, if the panda population in on the raise then the habitat also needs to be conserved. Fragmented habitats lead to problems with populations such as breading. All theses areas need to be re-connected. The population is still not stable and needs to be better managed. People need to be more aware. The panda population is slightly misleading but sounds like it is moving in the right direction.
