Eating Animals

I enjoyed the author’s approach, though I found it hard to follow his thoughts at some points. As a kid, I grew up in the middle of nowhere. I lived in a farming community where most of the kids I went to school with raised animals and either showed them at the fair or their family slaughtered them for meat. I don’t even think I met a vegetarian until I came to college. The whole idea was kind of foreign to me. I grew up eating meat, everyone around me ate meat, and I never thought twice about it. I still don’t really. I respect people’s decisions to refrain from eating meat but know that I would not be able to do so. Yes, I’ve thought about how it seems unfair to raise animals simply for their meat, however, we grow crops for their food value, so how is that any different?

Overall, I found the book to be interesting, however I didn’t really get much out of it. While the end is certainly meant to be persuasive, it’s also pretty easy to ignore…
