International Polar Bear Day

Today, February 27th, is International Polar Bear Day!!!  How are you going to celebrate? Many are celebrating by…not showering?  This may seem like an odd way to honor our polar bear friends, but it is actually part of a campaign to raise awareness on how to live a greener lifestyle and help reduce carbon emissions that are causing warming temperatures in the arctic, which are melting the ice-caps that these bears call home.

Polar Bear International gives a list of options on how to live to reduce your carbon footprint, for example: replacing old appliances to more energy efficient ones, reducing the amount of garbage you throw away by recycling, and turning off the lights and television when you leave a room.

Regardless if it is “International Polar Bear Day” or not, it is important to raise awareness on the how to lower an individual’s carbon footprint and work towards living a more sustainable lifestyle.
