Coyotes are actually adapting to city life in many parts of the country. As Humans encroach on natural habitats of animals some animals like the coyote have adapted to living within close proximity of humans, and they bring their fair share of problems, like eating household pets and in some cases I can see where coyotes being close to people like they are could endanger people as well. This goes along with my post on the chapters in Environment and Society but it strikes me as something that involves the protection of the environment and species by humans backfiring in the sense that species like coyotes are now adapting to humans everyday lives, and the closer they get and the more comfortable coyotes and “wild” animals get with humans the more dangerous the situation becomes.
The reason for coyotes in urban settings is due mainly to the fact we continuously encroach on their natural habitat, and being very adaptable animals they are able to live amongst us, another reason may be that there are no natural predators of coyotes and hunting them for their fur is not profitable, so they go unchecked in the wild so their populations increase and they are forced to encroach on humans. Most of the coyotes found in Urban areas are Young Coyotes who have no real fear of humans.
