The Big Lebowski is hands down my favorite movie. Over the years the film has acquired a large cult following, which has lead to extreme analysis and interpretation surrounding the movie. This is similar in the case The Beatles, Star Trek, Star Wars, etc. One branch of the film has been the development of an actual religion, Dudeism but formally known as The Church of the Latter-Day Dude, idolizing the Dude as a proverbial Buddha. Founded in 2005 by Oliver Benjamin, a journalist based in Los Angeles, California and Chiang Mai, Thailand, the religion is largely based on Zen Buddhism and Taoism but views The Big Lebowski as an inspiration and foundation.
